Immobilisation Safaris

Big_Cat_Safari_May_2009_-_Lioness_caninesOur Immobilisation Safaris afford clients the opportunity to be involved in wildlife darting and management procedures. Various species such as rhino, leopard, elephant, lion, and many more, that need darting for management or conservation reasons such as pregnancy monitoring or contraception, health checks, transmitter implants or collar fitment, are darted by a wildlife Veterinarian in order for the procedure to be carried out.

Clients are given the opportunity to participate in the procedure being carried out once the animal is tranquillised and it is safe to move closer. Depending on the species and procedure involved, clients will have the option of a hands-on approach, or, if they prefer, simply observing from up close and getting those pictures of a lifetime! Feel the inch thick skin of a rhino, or the hair on the tail of an elephant… all under the guidance of Dr Brothers.

Upon request it is sometimes even possible for clients to fly in the helicopter with the Veterinarian while the darting takes place!

Immobilisation Safaris are normally a minimum of four days, which allows guests ample time to become familiar with the species we are planning to immobilise, and the actual procedure itself, thus ensuring a complete experience when we get down to the immobilisation. There is also ample time to enjoy general game viewing in the reserve we are working in. The focus is on an informative and educational experience with time for fun and relaxation in-between.

Please note that no animals are darted without a valid and ethical reason, and at no time is the well being of the animal compromised!

Proceeds from the clients' fees are paid over to the wildlife reserve/conservation body to cover the costs of the procedure, and in so doing, clients are contributing directly to the conservation and successful management of the wildlife in South Africa.

These safaris only cater for small groups, generally a maximum of seven on a sharing basis, and thus provide an exclusive and well-controlled experience in a potentially dangerous situation. Bigger groups can be accommodated under certain circumstances.

The safaris take the form of set departures where individuals can book independently of one another, or can be booked as tailor-made safaris to meet your specific requirements with respect to your dates and group requirements, and sometimes even the species preferred.

Brothers Safaris will gladly assist you in planning your pre and post Immobilisation Safari requirements to give you the complete tailor-made African safari!

Join us on an Immobilisation Safari and know that your dreams about Africa will never be the same again…….

RHINO IMMOBILISATION SAFARIS 2012

Rhino_correctedBrothers Safaris offers various Immobilisation Safaris as part of our specialist African Vet Safaris portfolio. This particular safari co-operates with a private game reserve in the KwaZulu Natal Province of South Africa to facilitate ongoing management procedures within their rhino population, while giving guests a once-in-a-lifetime hands on experience!

This safari affords clients the opportunity to be involved in rhino immobilisation, carried out by one of the African Vet Safaris Wildlife Vets, and the subsequent management procedures which form a part of ongoing rhino management in the reserve. The days preceding the immobilisation allow time for traditional game drives learning about wildlife in general, but specifically learning more about black and white rhino and their management/conservation, as well as preparing you for the immobilisation procedure.

Guests are given the opportunity to participate in the procedure being carried out, once the animal is immobilised, and it is thus safe to move closer. Guests have the option of a hands-on approach, or, if they prefer, simply observing from up close and getting those pictures of a lifetime!

Come join us for the experience of a lifetime and contribute to wildlife conservation at the same time.
