Brothers Safaris Newsletter December 2008

\"header\"
As usual it has been a few busy, but good, months here. We sincerely hope that life is treating you well wherever you are, and that you have some rest and family time planned for this festive season.

Brothers Safaris is relocating….

Brothers Safaris is on the move in the new year – we are relocating to Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape Province – so not just down the road to new offices! We will initially be based in Grahamstown, but plan to purchase a farm in the area in due course, although the office will remain in Grahamstown. As soon as we have new telephone numbers and a new postal address, we’ll be sure to advise you, but until the second or third week of January 2009, our details remain unchanged, and of course our email and mobile numbers will remain unchanged throughout. The longer term plan will be to have our own lodge/camp from which to run our specialist safaris. We will also be joining forces with one of the leading wildlife veterinarians in the area, Dr William Fowlds. Watch this space..….

Radical revamp

As promised, our website has been totally revamped and recently launched. For those of you who have not yet visited it, please take a moment to visit it for more information on what we offer, safari availability (Safari Planner), detailed itineraries, new traditional tour and safari packages in Southern Africa, and more! The site will be updated regularly with new safari images, updates to safari availability and specials, and new video – so be sure to visit it regularly! Your feedback and comments would be appreciated.

Recent Safaris

Mr Otto, a German script writer for TV and movies, joined Dr Brothers for 8 days in November, to learn about what a wildlife vet does for a living. Jens was doing research for a TV series he is writing, which involves a wildlife vet in Africa. We spent many hours discussing what I do, but also spent time in the bush in search of wildlife and working with lion….. Besides the lion immobilisation, we tracked leopard as part of a research project and also had a bull elephant in early musth give us a hard time, from real close….. Jens said he wasn’t worried about the elephant because I wasn’t, so obviously looks can be deceiving, because my heart was pounding at a stage! Jens had a great time, based on his feedback, and hopefully learnt a heap about “being a wildlife vet”. Check out our home page to read what he had to say.

Safari Focus

We plan to highlight a different safari we offer in each newsletter, and we start with our Big Cat Safari which is very popular with guests. This nine day safari takes guests behind the scenes and gives them the opportunity to interact with researchers, ecologists, Vets and guides while discovering the fantastic world of wildlife in Southern Africa. The focus is on cheetah, leopard and lion, but many other species are encountered along the way, including elephant (and elephant research), and the endangered African Wild Dog. Guided throughout the safari by Dr Peter Brothers guests will be given a unique insight into the world of wildlife. Not only do guests have a fantastic time, but their participation also helps save the endangered cheetah and other species! This safari is aimed at both lay persons (without any veterinary background) and those with a Veterinary background. We currently have a Special on this safari – see the right hand column!
